
The National Media Awards Foundation is thrilled to introduce the 2022 National Magazine Awards: B2B jury. This group of 50 judges volunteered their time and expertise to collaboratively evaluate hundreds of pieces of editorial content published in Canadian B2B magazines. David Agnew is a former senior editor at Azure. He now serves as copy editor for a diverse group of Canadian magazines, including several past National Magazine Award winners.
Ed Bajek
Edward “Ed” Bajek began working in the publishing industry in 1984. Ed has worked domestically and internationally in sales, distribution, circulation, marketing, merchandising and logistics for books and magazines. Ed has worked with some of the largest publishers, wholesalers, and disturbers in the world, and helped launch titles from B2B to consumer blockbusters on the newsstand.


Karine Bénézet
Fascinée par les relations humaines et l’impact des mots, Karine Bénézet est journaliste pour le magazine L’Itinéraire et responsable de formation, depuis 2016. Lise Boullard
Lise Boullard is a passionate lifestyle editor and writer with over a decade of experience. After completing a master’s degree in publishing from Simon Fraser University, Lise’s French roots drew her east where she served as associate editor of Reader’s Digest in Montreal. Back in Vancouver, Lise joined Glacier Media, where she spent three years living the good life—and writing about it—as managing editor of Vita and Vancouver Living magazines. Lise now works at the forefront of Canada’s digital publishing industry, crafting copy that appeals to both humans (and algorithms) as the owner of Joie Digital Marketing. She also shares her lifestyle musings on her blog, The Editor’s Diary at theeditorsdiary.com.


Joyce Byrne
Joyce Byrne is an award-winning veteran of the Canadian magazine industry. She has led publishing, editorial, creative, marketing and sales teams and boards in Toronto, Edmonton and Calgary, and has worked on nearly every type of magazine, from arts and literary to light industrial, with consumer, business, health and cannabis in between. Joyce is the recipient of the National Media Awards Foundation’s Outstanding Achievement award, and is past president of Alberta Magazine Publishers Association. She is AMPA’s curriculum consultant and the host of this year’s AMPA Webinar Series. Joyce lives in Toronto and her personal brand is I Love Magazines.
Melissa Campeau
Melissa Campeau is a senior communications professional and an award-winning writer and editor who’s worked in the fields of travel, advertising, entertainment, education, HR and finance. Her work has appeared in a range of publications including Profit, HR Professional, Professionally Speaking and Financial Post. During her three years as Senior Editor with Professionally Speaking magazine, the publication won two gold and seven silver NMA B2B awards.


Fredrik Carlberg
Fredrik Carlberg is a visual thinker, with an interest in the form & function and sustainable practices of all systems and products. He is an active and responsible consumer, applying principles of sustainability wherever possible. Fredrik has a great appreciation for simple elegant, evocative design work in any industry and appreciates the opportunity to guide the strategy and development of any project from brand identities, packaging, editorial projects to websites and new media. Fredrik served as a faculty advisor/educator at York University/Sheridan College design programs. His current clients include B2B sectors in hospitality, food service, grocery, meetings & incentive travel, financial services, recruitment, plumbing & HVAC/R.
His specialties include creative direction, brand identity and logo design, content management, graphic design, editorial design, web design and usability, illustration, photography, art direction, communication strategy and sustainability.
Peter Carter
Peter Carter is a Toronto-based writer, editor, and one-time magazine owner and publisher with 35 years of experience in Canadian magazines. The winner of a Michener Award for Public Service Journalism, Peter is currently Analysis Editor at The Lawyers’s Daily. When he’s not editing or penning his award-winning blog Pete’s Blog&Grille, Carter is either playing his accordion or riding his motorbike.


Gail Cohen
Gail Cohen is one of Canada’s most respected legal journalists. She is currently the Canadian Correspondent for American Lawyer Media as well as an editor with the New York-based professional team at Reuters. She was previously the editor in chief of Canadian Lawyer, Law Times and InHouse magazines and related digital products. Gail has extensive freelance editing and writing experience and has provided strategic communications advice, editing and writing services to a number of Canadian-based non-profit organizations. She is also an awesome gardener, mushroom hunter, chef and quilter.
Justin Dallaire
Justin Dallaire is an associate editor at MoneySense, a personal finance digital magazine. A graduate of the master’s program at the School of Journalism, he previously served as associate editor at Strategy magazine. Dallaire was nominated for Best New Magazine Writer at the 2018 National Magazine Awards and for Feature Writing at the 2020 National Magazine Awards: B2B. Last year, he won a Gold medal in Best Feature Article: Trade for the piece, “Who is the post-pandemic consumer?”


Tara Deschamps
Tara Deschamps is a Toronto-based business journalist with The Canadian Press covering tech, cannabis and real estate. She’s previously worked at the Toronto Star and The Globe and Mail, wrote a weekly real estate series for The New York Times, and freelanced for The Guardian, Star Metro News and Maclean’s.
Diana Duong
Diana Duong is the news reporter at CMAJ. Her work has appeared in numerous magazines including Chatelaine, Maclean’s and Best Health.


Jacinthe Dupuis
Jacinthe Dupuis is a former Senior Editor for Air Canada enRoute. She is currently completing a Master’s in organizational communications where she studies how entrepreneurship trajectories are constituted through a communicational perspective.
Daniel Fish
Daniel Fish is the senior editor at Precedent Magazine. He graduated from Carleton University’s journalism program and has a master’s in English from the University of Guelph. Daniel won Gold at the National Magazine Awards for his profile of Michael Bryant.


Gabrielle Giroday
Gabrielle (Gabe) Giroday is the media relations lead for the Temerty Facuty of Medicine at University of Toronto and editor of U of T Med Magazine. Before joining U of T in 2019, she worked as a newspaper editor and reporter, and as a provincial government spokeswoman. She was a judge for the National Newspaper Awards in 2021.
Nuria Gonzalez
Born and raised in Mexico City, Nuria Gonzalez has more than 20 years of experience in the editorial, advertising, and digital media sectors.
Nuria moved to Canada in 2003, working as the art director for Fuse and Mix magazines. Currently, she works as the art director for Benefits Canada magazine. Additionally, she oversees Benefits Canada‘s website user experience, branding strategy and supervising consistency throughout all digital platforms, including digital marketing, and e-newsletters. Previously, Nuria was the design manager at Lord Cultural Resources, where she coordinated the firm’s publications, branding and marketing initiatives for their six offices worldwide.
Nuria holds a BA in graphic communications and a master’s degree in digital media from Ryerson University.


Mara Gulens
Mara Gulens is a writer and editor whose stories have appeared in publications such as Cairo Today, The Medical Post and The Globe and Mail. She’s been editor of two Microsoft web portals, the Canada Computes family of publications and the award-winning CMA magazine. Mara’s work on CPA Canada’s dynamic e-newsletter was recognized by Association Media & Publishing and the Canadian Online Publishing Awards. Mara lives and works in Toronto.
Rebecca Harris
Rebecca Harris is a seasoned business writer and B2B content specialist. On the publishing side, her work has appeared in Marketing, Canadian Grocer, Foodservice & Hospitality, Hotelier, Canadian Business, and Communication Arts. Rebecca has won four Canadian Business Media Awards (formerly KRW awards) and has been nominated for 16 awards.

Andy Holloway is an editor/writer who has worked for a variety of publications in a variety of positions over the past 30+ years. He’s currently editor of Financial Post magazine, senior features editor of the Financial Post, editor of the weekly FP Investor newsletter and a contributing editor to the National Post.
Brenda Johnstone
Brenda Johnstone brings more than 30 years of trade magazine publishing experience. She launched Convenience & Carwash Canada fourteen years ago and the Women in Carwash conference two-and-a-half years ago. Brenda’s wide range of experience includes national and regional trade magazines, national and regional Tradeshow organizing, corporate event planning, golf tournament organization and more.


Joelle Kidd
Joelle Kidd is a writer and editor living in Toronto. She has worked as the editor of Ciao! Magazine and WHERE Winnipeg magazine, and as a staff writer for the Anglican Journal / Epiphanies Magazine. She is currently the editor of Franchise Canada magazine.
Emma Jarratt
Emma Jarratt is an investigative journalist in Toronto. She holds a Master of Journalism from Ryerson University and a Bachelor of Arts from Carleton University. Emma is the Managing Editor of Electric Autonomy Canada where she oversees the editorial body of content for the outlet and often, herself, reports on industry news. Emma is an accredited member of The Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) and the Canadian Association of Journalists (CAJ). Emma was previously an associate producer for W5 and freelanced for CTV, the Toronto Star, The Globe and Mail, The Barents Observer and VICE in print and broadcast. She has reported from eight countries and lived abroad in Switzerland, the U.K. and Norway.


Louise Leger
Award-winning journalist, accomplished storyteller, avid fan of alliteration. Born and raised in Montreal, Louise studied English Literature at Bishop’s University, and then launched her career at the Sherbrooke Record, covering everything from sidewalk safety to sovereigntists and celebs. After dabbling in Vancouver life and press junkets to L.A., she put down roots in Toronto.
What followed was a blur of entertainment / business / medical journalism, with a few stints editing on national news desks. She then made a semi-pivot to media relations and corporate communications. Today, Louise is a medical / lifestyle / business writer, marketing and social media copywriter and communications consultant. Her company is Catbird Communications.
Colin Leslie
Colin Leslie is a journalist in Toronto who has worked at The Medical Post for 25 years including the last 13 as editor-in-chief. He’s won gold and silver National Magazine Awards: B2B and before that a number of Kenneth R. Wilson Awards. He’s supervised editorial teams of different sizes over the years.


Wenting Li
Wenting Li is a Toronto/ Tkaronto-based illustrator, painter and muralist. Wenting has done work for The Walrus, The Globe & Mail, The New York Times, and Polaris Music Prize; her most recent public mural project is The Hope in Chinatown.
Matthew Liteplo
Matthew Liteplo is a commercial photographer based in Ottawa. Over the past decade, Matthew has worked with a variety of commercial, corporate and editorial clients throughout Canada to produce a people-focused body of work. Matthew believes that creating a thoughtful connection is the best way to make a creative project successful for the client.


Andrew Macklin
Andrew Macklin is an external communications specialist for WSP in Canada. Prior to joining WSP, Macklin was the editorial director of Toronto’s Actual Media, responsible for the company’s content development and execution for its water, environment and infrastructure brands. A jack-of-all-trades media and communications professional with nearly two decades of experience creating print, audio, and video content, his extensive portfolio also includes senior roles in municipal, provincial and federal election campaigns, as well as holding multiple leadership positions within local and provincial not-for-profit organizations. Macklin is a regular voice on the national and international conference circuit, speaking on issues such as water industry innovation, asset management, and industry investment opportunities. He is a regular contributor to provincial and national media outlets on public sector infrastructure issues, including appearances on CBC: The National, CTV’s Power Play, and CBC Power and Politics.
Gil Martínez
Gil Martínez has more than two decades of design experience and has worked for publishers throughout North America. He has been a member of the Association of Registered Graphic Designers since 2004, where he has reviewed portfolios for junior designers and prospective members, and participated in its Education and Ethics committees. He has received accolades from the HOW International Design Awards, the SoGood Design Awards, the Canadian Business Media Awards and others. In addition to his work as art director for Newcom Media Inc.’s Financial Group, Gil writes about branding and design for the financial industry, has written a book about calligraphy and typography, and teaches editorial design at Centennial College.

Mya McNulty
Mya McNulty is an award-winning art director, specializing in custom content creation, editorial creative direction and design. With more than 15 years of experience, she helps brands tell stories that are meaningful and engaging. Over the years, she has created content for a wide range of clients, including Porter, CAA, Sobeys, Acura and Aeroplan.


Anna Minzhulina
Anna Minzhulina is a multi-award-winning Art Director and artist who has had a career spanning close to two decades in print and digital design.
Her visionary magazine covers have been highly regarded by such industry legends as George Lois, Chip Kidd and David Drummond for their ingenuity. Minzhulina’s acclaimed graphic design and creative direction can be found in publications ranging from Maisonneuve magazine and Maclean’s magazine to Experience magazine.
She has been on the Board of Directors for the NMA Foundation since 2018. That same year, Minzhulina was granted a Fellowship Award for her ongoing graduate studies work at Concordia University. Currently, she is pursuing a Masters Degree in Computation Arts at Concordia University and her research focus centers on magazine design and the use of traditional and artistic processes in print media. Minzhulina is also a trained artist who explores human nature through canvas and multimedia. Her first exhibit is scheduled for Spring 2023.
Dean Mitchell
A career-long advocate of illustration, Dean Mitchell has worked with many of the best and brightest illustrators in the publication world.
After more than 20 years art directing and designing some of Canada’s best-known magazines, he founded Fresh Art & Design in 2007, with his life and business partner, Susan Mitchell.
He has been invited to speak on the topics of magazine design and illustration by, the RGD, CMPA (MAGS U), OCADU, and Sheridan College’s Illustration Symposium. Served as a jury member on the Applied Arts Awards, and twice now, on both the National Magazine Awards, and the NMA B2B Awards (formerly the KRW’s).
A proud Mohawk member of Six Nations of the Grand River, his firm takes special interest in branding and design for Indigenous organizations and companies wishing to communicate with Indigenous peoples. Clients include many Indigenous NPOs, major banks, universities, museums, corporations, and numerous federal and provincial government agencies.


Stephanie C. Mitchell
Stephanie C. Mitchell works with lawyers, judges, and senior executives across Canada to help them learn to communicate more clearly and persuasively. She has both a law degree and a first-class honours degree in journalism. She is based in Montréal and regularly beams herself around the world to lead workshops about clear writing and effective public speaking. Stephanie has years of experience choosing the best words as a news reporter and senior producer for CBC Radio in Vancouver, Victoria, and Edmonton. She has also worked in government communications and law school administration.
Candice Pinault Novak
Candice Pinault Novak has been leading editorial teams and editing magazines for the past 10 years—specializing in helping higher education institutions communicate strategically and engage their communities through innovative, award-winning print and digital magazines.

Luc Rinaldi is a senior editor at Toronto Life. His writing has appeared in Maclean’s, Canadian Business, The Walrus and Reader’s Digest.
Alec Scott
Alec Scott is a Canadian writer based in Oakland. His work has appeared in Toronto Life, Report on Business, the Los Angeles Times, San Francisco magazine, the Guardian, and he has taught writing at Stanford. His first novel, Until It Shimmers, comes out next year. He has been nominated for 13 National Magazine Awards.


Katie Sehl
Katie Sehl is a writer and editor based in Montréal. Her writing and photography have appeared in Air Canada’s enRoute, CNN, Fortune, Maisonneuve, and VICE. She was previously editor-in-chief of APEX Experience magazine.
Jo Shackleton
Jo Shackleton has been in the design industry since graduating from St Martins College, London with a BA (Hons) degree in Graphic Design in 1992. She has worked for many of the larger agencies in London, Madrid and San Francisco. She received a D&AD Award for creative excellence for her work on the Siemens investor handbook. Jo founded Eighth Day Design in April 2002.


Amanda Silliker
Amanda Silliker is the editor of PTEN (Professional Tool & Equipment News) and Professional Distributor magazines, a part of the Vehicle Repair Group at Endeavor Business Media. She was thrilled to take on this position in April 2021 and marry her personal love of the automotive industry with her professional B2B magazine experience.
Amanda has been editing B2B publications for 12 years. She was the editor of Canadian Occupational Safety magazine, a B2B trade publication for safety professionals, and the project manager for Canada’s Safest Employers Awards at Thomson Reuters in Toronto before joining Endeavor. She previously held editor roles at Canadian HR Reporter and Canadian Family in Toronto, and Dance Magazine in New York City. She has a Bachelor of Journalism, Highest Honours, from Carleton University in Ottawa.
Amanda is an award-winning journalist. In 2020, she was the gold winner in the Best Feature Article: Trade category at the National Magazine Awards: B2B for her article about health and safety for recent immigrants. The same article was placed in the Top 25 Feature Articles list from the international 2020 Tabbie Awards. Amanda regularly conducts speaking engagements and hosts panel discussions at conferences across North America.
Based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, with her husband and 2-year-old daughter, Amanda is honoured to be a member of the National Magazine Awards: B2B judging panel.
Michael Sinanan
Michael is principal at Brainmetal Design. His experience has incorporated publishing, corporate communications, creative design, branding solutions and the fine arts, adding photography and industrial design to his extensive portfolio. With a love for the visual world and a near obsession with how design unites, Brainmetal has become a portal for clients to access his knowledge of business strategies, market intelligence, out-of-the-box creativity and detailed brand delivery. Working from the west to east coast, Brainmetal has explored the varied world of design incorporating international influence to create comprehensive and informed projects.


Andrew Snook
Andrew Snook is a professional writer and editor based in Mississauga, Ontario. Snook has written for more than 50 business-to-business magazines, regional and national newspapers and online publications. His articles have recently earned him two National Magazine Awards: B2B (Honourable Mentions in 2019 and 2020) and an international Tabbie Award (2020 — Top 25 B2B Magazine Articles from English Language Publications around the world, #20). Snook also won a bronze medal at the 2021 Independent Publishers Book Awards for Best Regional Fiction (Canada-West) for his second novel, Remy’s Dilemma: Special Delivery.
Neil Sutton
As the editor of Canadian Security, SP&T News and Sécurité Québec, Neil Sutton manages the content strategy for Annex Business Media’s Security group, including print and digital magazines, websites, events, award programs, and social media presence. Neil has worked with Annex for almost 15 years. Prior to that, he was the editor of the Canadian technology/business publication ITBusiness.ca. Neil is an active member of the security industry, volunteering for the Canadian Security Lifesaver Association as a board member and the Canadian Security Association on its Monitoring Station Symposium organizing committee.


John Tenpenny
John Tenpenny is an award-winning editor, writer and content creator, with more than 25 years of experience in delivering high-quality editorial content and special publishing projects. In his previous roles, he worked at the helm of a variety of trade publications, including ReNew Canada, Plumbing & HVAC, Canadian Shipper, Canadian Forest Industries, and Canadian Mortgage Professional.
Marine Thomas
Diplômée d’une maîtrise en Management de la culture et des médias de Sciences Po Paris, Marine Thomas est spécialisée dans la presse d’affaires. En 2011, elle pilote la refonte du magazine Premières en affaires, un bimestriel sur les grands enjeux économiques au féminin. Deux ans plus tard, elle participe à la création d’Inspiro, un magazine trimestriel destiné aux jeunes professionnels et entrepreneurs. Joe Thompson
Joe Thompson has been covering the Canadian manufacturing sector for nearly two decades. He is responsible for the day-to-day editorial direction of Canadian Metalworking magazine, providing a uniquely Canadian look at the world of metal manufacturing. An award-winning writer and graduate of the Sheridan College journalism program, he has published articles worldwide in a variety of industries, including manufacturing, pharmaceutical, medical, infrastructure, and entertainment.
Conan Tobias
Conan Tobias is the editor-in-chief, publisher, and founder of Taddle Creek magazine, and the executive director of the Doug Wright Awards.


Michael Tong
Based in Toronto, Michael is the art director at Group SJR, a global marketing and advertising agency. He has worked on multimedia projects for a variety of luxury and lifestyle clients including Fairmont, Birks, Lindt, Air Canada, Bombardier, Hudson’s Bay, Interac and Corby Spirit & Wine. A cross-platform creative, Michael brings his interests in food, travel, design, and culture to life through comprehensive art direction and graphic design.
Brianne Tulk
Brianne Tulk is a Toronto-based communications specialist with over 10 years of experience in healthcare, research, and higher education. She is passionate about storytelling and the role that communications plays as a key part of knowledge translation.


Tim Wilbur
Tim Wilbur is a licensed lawyer and current Editor-In-Chief of Key Media’s print and digital law publications including Lexpert, Canadian Lawyer, InHouse, and Law Times. He is a graduate of McMaster University with a degree in Philosophy & Human Rights and Juris Doctor Law degree from the University of Toronto. He has over 16 years of publishing experience, starting as the Focus Editor on The Lawyers Weekly publication at LexisNexis and managing legal editorial content for Thomson Reuters. His reporting covers all areas of law in Canada, and he also oversees content for Key Media’s legal events, including the Canadian Law Awards and Lexpert Rising Stars. He has appeared on panel discussions and has chaired and emceed leading events for the legal community in Canada.
